Incised Torus Wild Sphere

Incised Torus Wild Sphere has two incarnations. It was first carved directly out of Albemarle serpentine in a way which expressed the infinite construction. After carving a stone sphere, Helaman penetrated it, creating the hole or "handle" that made it a torus. Double holes were followed by quadruple holes and the delicate stone forms which became branches appeared. Subtract the right things from a torus and a wild sphere emerges, articulating the space inside a torus.

After carving, the stone was cast in polished bronze. An interrupted torus, a ring gone wild, rests upon what remains of its tubular bottom. The upper half has bifurcated into four intertwining arms, from which eight fingers spontaneously emerge. Combined with reflected movement, light dances and pulsates over the surface, rendering its skin insubstantial-- transparent. A dynamic flickering bronze flame.
