The (3,4) refers to a torus knot going 3 times the long way and 4 times the short way around the torus; this knot is presented in this piece as an esker ridge with hypocycloid cusp cross-section. The (3,4) torus knot was the logo for the 1999 SIGGRAPH and has figured in computer graphics as an especially striking coons patch. Cf., some papers by Alyn Rockwood, also for background the (3,1) analogue, cf., Claire Ferguson, " Helaman Ferguson: Mathematics in Stone and Bronze", Meridian Creative Group, Publisher, 1994, ISBN 0-9639121-0-0, pages 6-7, 73, 76.
